Lost

The history of macOS, Apple's current Mac operating system originally named Mac OS X until 2012 and then OS X until 2016, began with the company's project to replace its 'classic' Mac OS.That system, up to and including its final release Mac OS 9, was a direct descendant of the operating system Apple had used in its Macintosh computers since their introduction in 1984.

All you need to do is to go to this address on your Time Machine backup:

~/Users/YourUser /Library/Preferences/

And restore these files (simply copy/paste and replace):

com.apple.dashboard.plist and com.apple.dashboard.client.plist

There! Restart your Mac and you'll have your stickies back in no time!

My Story

Well, this has happened to me more than once! And this little trick has come handy both times as I usually have a lot of info on my dashboard stickies! And I think everybody does. It's just because they're always there for quick notes!

Anyways, after doing a clean installation of OS X Mavericks (or Yosemite.. or more recently, El Capitan; or even more recently, MacOS Sierra) about a week ago, today, I needed my stickies back! I had an account login on one of them (talk about security and privacy! Right!? lol ) And I didn't want a full backup restoration. It felt like 'what's the point of a clean installation if I put everything back in it!?' Although it is not really the case!

And I thought, I've needed to recover dashboard stickies a couple of times, I might need to again! So I wrote it down for myself. Then I thought 'Alright, don't be selfish! What's your blog for!?' So it became this post.

Hope it helps you as much as it helped me! Let me know in the comments.

Update 1:

It works for OS X Yosemite as well.

Update 2:

And again, it works for OS X El Capitan just fine too.

Update 3:

The trick still works, even though it's called MacOS Sierra now.

Update 4:

You guessed it right! You can recover dashboard stickies on MacOS High Sierra as well.

Update 5:

I think this will go on for some time, but you can recover dashboard stickies on MacOS Mojave as well.

Fable: The Lost Chapters is a fantasy action-adventure game set in the mythical world of Albion. Set in a third-person perspective, Fable: The Lost Chapters is a sprawling game loaded with many missions and quests. But Lionhead has added some unique twists to Fable: Your character starts out as a child and ages throughout the game, changing its physical appearance, receiving training at the Heroes' Guild and then going out into the world. What's more, your actions determine your character's moral alignment, and whether they are 'good' or 'evil' will have a profound affect on them and on how others perceive them.

The decisions you make, your successes and your failures will have a direct bearing on how the other characters in Fable perceive and react to you. Those decisions will also determine the ultimate end to the game. Fable: The Lost Chapters takes the original Xbox experience and expands upon it with more content, greater customization features, new quests and enhanced graphics.

Fable was expanded and re-released as Fable: The Lost Chapters for Xbox and Windows PC platforms in September 2005. The game was later ported to Mac OS X by Robosoft Technologies and published by Feral Interactive on 31 March 2008.

The Lost Chapters features all the content found in the original Fable, as well as additional new content such as new monsters, weapons, alignment-based spells, items, armour, towns, buildings, and expressions, as well as the ability to give children objects. The story receives further augmentation in the form of nine new areas and sixteen additional quests. Characters such as Briar Rose and Scythe, who played only minor roles in the original game, are now given more importance and are included in certain main and side quests. Other character-based augmentations include the voice of the antagonist, Jack of Blades, sounding deeper, harsher and more demonic, and the ability to uncover (and resolve) the murder mystery of Lady Grey's sister. The updated edition of the game also applied fixes for certain glitches, such as the 'dig glitch', in which the protagonist would move backward each time he used the shovel, pushing him through solid objects and sometimes trapping him.
